Four ways to book the same crew

Four services split one job seven ways: build it, guide it, teach it, or plan it long.

Every one of these routes back to the same seven people and the same segment logbook. This page lines them up side by side so you can pick the right door in rather than guess from a menu.

Reading this comparison

One crew, four contracts

Two of these are guiding services and two are contracting services, and the split matters more than the mileage. Guided Hikes and Custom Multi-Day Expeditions put a guide from this crew in front of your group on ground they've serviced. Trail Building & Maintenance and Wilderness Navigation Skills are the other two: one puts the crew's tools on your land, the other puts a course in front of a group that wants to learn the skill rather than be led through it.

If four inputs sounds faster than reading four pages, the Trip Fit Checker runs the same triage a guide would run at a trailhead and drops you straight onto the page that fits.

Side by side

What each one is, and who it's for

Nowhere else on the site lines all four up together. Each row links through to its own page with the full item list, pricing basis, and specific terms.

Guided Hikes For visitors who want a day or evening on trail with someone who knows the current footing, not a self-guided map printout. Covers a half-day ridge walk, a full-day summit trek, and a dusk headlamp route. Guided Hikes
Trail Building & Maintenance For land trusts, conservation groups, and private landowners who need tread regraded, drainage cut, stone steps set, or blazes repainted. Priced by the linear foot, the step, or the mile depending on the work. Trail Building
Wilderness Navigation Skills For hikers who want to run their own navigation instead of following a guide. A half-day map and compass clinic, or a two-day course covering dead reckoning, pace counts, and night navigation. Navigation Skills
Custom Multi-Day Expeditions For groups ready for six-plus miles a day over two or more days, or a family wanting a paced overnight. Permits, water sources, and group caps get planned before a date is held. Custom Expeditions

Deciding factors

Three questions that actually sort these four

Do you want to be led, or do you want to learn?

Guiding vs. skills

Guided Hikes and Custom Expeditions put a guide in front. Wilderness Navigation Skills does the opposite on purpose: the instructor holds back and lets you make the navigation call, then corrects it. If you'd rather not carry the compass yourself, book a guided trip instead.

Is this about a trip, or about your land?

Guiding vs. contracting

If nobody is walking your property, it's a contracting question. Trail Building & Maintenance covers tread, drainage, stone steps, and blazing on conservation land and private tracts, priced by the foot, the step, or the mile rather than per person.

One day, or more than one?

Day trips vs. multi-day

Guided Hikes and the navigation clinic run in a day or an evening. A two-day navigation course and Custom Multi-Day Expeditions run longer, and the multi-day traverse specifically assumes six-plus miles a day — not a pace every group is ready for on the first booking.

Four inputs, one answer

The Trip Fit Checker takes group size, experience, comfortable distance, and what you want out of the trip, and routes you to one of the four pages with a reason attached, not a generic result.

Still between two of these? Call and describe the ground.

Tell us the terrain, the group, or the land, and we'll point you at the right one of the four rather than let you guess from a page.
